Filemaker Pro 10 line spacing printing problem

I am running FM Pro 10 on Windows XP and have come across a problem. When printing I am getting spaces between text (almost like double line spacing) even though line spacing height is set to 1 line. When I preview the page it displays correctly, but when it is printed out it has a space. I am using Arial font. If I change the font to Tahoma the problem goes away. If I change it back to Arial or even Helvetica the problem comes back. This file is a converted Filemaker Pro 6 database. Any ideas on how to solve?

be care , the preview is bugged @ 100%, always use 75% or 150% to test.
the font does not really matter, it's more or less accurate, that's all, but never good. pretty unbearable... fm6 was better though not perfect

We had this problem several years ago when upgrading from v6 to v8. The advice I got from everyone was to try reinstalling your printer drivers, or update the printer drivers if there is one. That didn't do the trick for us but maybe it will for you.

Instead, what did work for us: I ended up recreating several layouts that were printing similarly to how you describe. It was like the layout was corrupted somehow in the conversion up to 8.
I created a new blank layout from scratch, then copied all of the layout elements from the old layout. Simply duplicating the layout did not work for me. Do some test prints and if it looks like that did the trick...the next step will be to run a DDR and track down all scripts and buttons that point to that old corrupted layout and point them to the new layout.

I have figured it out on the Filemaker Forum.

Look at your printer and the options for it. It may be using the "device fonts". I have had trouble with a few printers when using some fonts. Using the device fonts means that less information has to be sent to the printer but if your font is not quite the same as the one on the device (or is not on the device) it can have strange results. (had one printer print in WingDings instead of the Arial font)

If this is the problem, you need only unselect this option to correct it. (but this has to be for each user and cannot be fixed within filemaker)

even for a given font , included in data sent to printer, there several ways to render it from printer to printer, and the filemaker preview is not using the printer process, but its own, so you can always expect differences. what does filemaker when switching printers drivers is only reading margins, format, a few std options like printing sideways, etc... the best result is probably obtained with a PS printer as this is a rather well normalized rendering standard, which always martches a pdf output too.
