OK - First things to check is:

Make sure all of your validation controls, as well as the submit button all have the same Validation Group Property set.

This will join all the Validators with the Submit button.

Thanks, i have just added them all to the same validation group but it still didn't work...

Which Version of the Net Framework are you using?

Also if all the Validators as well as the submit button are set to the same validation group then there should be no need for the if page.isvalid in the on click event of the submit button, because the validators are client side, which means the server side on click will not fire if there is a validator that comes back false.

That being said, make sure the Link button you are using is set to be the Submit button on the page.
To do that, set the PostBackUrl property on the link button to the page.

Give that  try.

I found the problem, in the my validators i made them visible = false, as i didn't want them to display to the user...turns out that stops them from working!
