Restore SharePoint Using Backup Exec 12.5
Hi There
we currently have a production and test SharePoint Farm setup. We are running backup exec 12.5 with the SharePoint Agent on both Farms. My topology is the same in both environments:
1 x SQL 2005 box
1 x SharePoint 2007 Server - WFE.
I am wanting to restore a site collection from from Farm A to Farm B and am not exactly sure of the process I have confirmed that the backups are successful.
This is what I have tried:
> Create a restore job
> Under selections I choose the web application and cyle to the latest backup which holds the content database
> I go to the SharePoint Redirection setting and I type in the URL for the destination and the Front-end server name
When I initiate this it fails. Is this the correct procedure or is there something missing?
I know I can restore the whole content database using the SQL Redirection but I believe this is not the correct procedure as there are alot of unique identifiers which are carried across which need to be reset.
I can do this process using the STSADM backup - restore commands but I would like to use backupexec
Any help would be much appreciated.
Cheers Nathan

I am aware of this and have moved content databases between SQL instances in the past using the stsadm -preparetomove command than moving the databases across.
My question is how does Backup Exec handle this? Is there anyway of restoring a content database from one farm to another just using backup exec? I know there is site ID's etc kept in the content databases which need to be reset when moving the database this is why the preparetomove command is initiated.
Thanks.

Cloning Sharepoint is the same as a disaster recovery. You setup Sharepoint and use a combination of stsadm and SQL to restore the non-Administration content databases. Search this site and the web for articles on 'disaster recovery' and Sharepoint
