Just need someone to double check me.

Work is so crazy I need a quick double check...I have the feeling I am going to forget something...

I am helping a friend (off work hours) swap their main (only) primary domain controller. (I do this stuff on a daily basis.... but I have all the comforts of my stuff here at work and the nice network I call home...)

so keep in mind, Ii will only have access to what i bring with me...

Old server hardware is going down, the new stuff is in place and server 2008 is loaded and added as a member server to the domain.

so in my mind here is what i have left.

1. Run adprep /forest prep ... /domainprep to extend the 2003 schema to 2008 (from the 2008 media)
2. Run Dcpromo on the new member server (2008) (wait for replication to finish)
3. Transfer the FSMO roles over to the new DC

Its only a 15 person company so DNS scopes can be redone by hand
DHCP is being handled by the router at this time and they want to keep it that way

after this I would bring down the old server and start a battery of tests.

anything that I am obviously missing? Any gotchas with 2008 taking over as a DC? specific tests other than the obvious ones to use for advise?

ASKER

its not intergrated dns. should i do that on the old dc before the promo?
You might want to also check for other software packages that may be hosted such as an antivirus management server.

Lastly, does the server have any additional roles installed such as certificates, any iis sites, WSUS?
I would it would make it easier for you.
Thanks
Mike
