"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Go into tools -> internet options, go into the internet (or whatever zone you need) zone, click custom level, and configure the activex controls section.  Also try this for further reference, http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/ie6/using/howto/security/setup.mspx.

1030071002--In Security tab|Custom Level (as described by epochasset), the most important settings to enable Active X would be to fill in the Enable button for
Download signed ActiveX controls
Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins
Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting

1030071002--I forgot to mention that the simplest way to ease the restrictions on the use of ActiveX controls is to put a site into Trusted Sites.  That is a little more work since you must do that site by site, but it gives you more control over the sites allowed to freely use ActiveX.  The Microsoft Update site would be an excellent candidate to put into Trusted Sites, as would be the Flash Player and www.time.gov sites.
