Nas OS that support AD integration and compression

Hello,

I am looking for a nas OS that has feature such cifs samba and all the other typical nas OS functionality but what's very important for us is the compressions and possibly AD support.

I know that there is some OS nas  that can be purchaised online.

I bought once nas lite OS from server elements, and this is not good at all doesn't support compression for save disk space. Of course free nas is also no good is an open source.

Anyone can help? I do not know company names that they provide those type of OS.

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Take a look at the products sold by QNAP. The Pro series have AD support. We use the 209 TS Pro's  and have locked down the shares to Domain Admins and our backup service Account.

So do they sell the os online?
Have you got the address of the website?
Does the os support compression for save disk space?

Is the only os nas available out there?

Hello,
I think I might have mislead you, QNAP make units (hardware) and on it sits their OS. Here is a link to the QNAP TS-209 Pro
http://www.qnap.com/pro_detail_feature.asp?p_id=82
Our data is compressed but I'm not sure to what extent. I'll check on Tuesday. The dataspec sheets say "Advanced options including data compression"
I'll have for an Operating System on it's own.

I also heard about a Very nice Linux based Open Source NAS. Includes configuration option for Active Directory authentication as well. can be found on Openfiler, but I cannot actually identify and download this software.

Anyone knows anthing about it? Also Darren I went to the website of QNAP but I cannot download any software NAS that support AD and Compressions

To all:

Resume I have my own hardware server and at the moment I am using "nas lite" from server elements.
This is a Nas Server OS but it's a very simple software , doesn't support AD and Doesn't support most important compression.

I am looking for a Nas OS based even on nfs, this is not avtually so important. What it's very important is the the NAS OS support compression and AD authentication.

Please let me know what kind of sotware we have out there.

Thanks

I didn't hear from you anymore. Does QNAP product any of them support any kind of compression or de-de-duplication?

The sheets guide line of some of the product doesn't shows any compression technology, only support of AD. Could you or anyone else advise.

I am still waiting for some help on this one I need a device that would support compression on disk when data id backedup. I need a device server that support also AD, but we are very small Office so we cannot effor to have system such netapp or datadomain that are the top for de-duplication.

I do know that there are out there product that can provide small compression like 2x or 4x.

Anyone knows where we can bye such a device or if there is a software Nas that offer this capability?
