CSS Footer alignment

My footer resides within a container div but does not align with the rest of the page?

The URI for my css is at

www.onceupononline.com/css/layout.css

Many thanks for any help on this matter

Could you post the URI to the page using that CSS? It's difficult to troubleshoot without seeing what the problem is.

If you add 4px left padding to apDiv2 you may get the results that you are looking for.

The problem is in the lay out.  You will run into too many problem with your bg not being "tied" to
the rest of the page.  I noticed the bg slide into the left side of the browser....That alone will hurt the design and cause trouble.....

http://sketchlab.com/ttemp/
 is my recomendation on how to do it.....  Also the bottom would line up if it were the same size in my example....  A quikly built page on my part..

selvol is correct...very difficult to do what you're trying to do and get it to look right in all browers. The only part that's in really rough shape on the Mac is the Property Search section. You'll be better off putting all that info in a table to keep it organized and uniform on all browsers. You'll need to realign it to get it to fit in your apDiv5 section.

Also, to get your background to align much much easier you'll want to crop the transparent space from the image > remove the url in your body css > attach it to the container like so:

body {
line-height: 1;
background-repeat:no-repeat;
background-position:center top;
}
#container {
width:1070px;
margin-left:auto;
margin-right:auto;
position:static;
background:transparent url(bg_temp.gif) 0 0 no-repeat;
}

Here's the table I suggest using in the property search area and the cropped bg image:
<div id="apDiv5">
<form action="search.php?wci=results" method="post" name="formSearch" id="formSearch">
<table width="23%" border="0" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="0">

</tr>

<td>Henley</td>

</tr>
<tr>
<td>Marlow</td>
<td><input type="checkbox" name="branchlist" value="1377"/></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>Twyford</td>
<td><input type="checkbox" name="branchlist" value="1379"/></td>
</tr>

renazonse: Mentions trimming off the transparent side of the BG.  Yes, correct..
In the example that is done.

Also their are many ways to do this page. And many that will work..

Another suggestion would be to use a table as Renazonse mentioned.
But To improve on the site would be to use table with colored back grounds ,borders, shadows, curves.

Basically I am just stating that the whole Background you use could be generated with CSS and no images......

Regards..

P.s. Renazonse,
Glad to see another spending some time on their answer,
Glad you could locate the page in ref..

Many thanks to all of you for your help, and sincere apologies for not posting the URL (the site uses the same layout for all links that work from the navigation links)

Selvol many thanks for your input, unfortuantely the guy who i am doing this for insists the page resides in the center, otherwise i would have the page laid out like this from the start - though i must admit it did not even occur to me that the elements might not be the same width, i thought i was very careful with this but not careful enough it seems!

I realize that i could create the look i have completely with CSS, unfortuantely i am not very skilled and this is actually my first attempt at a HTML website, the fact that its driven purely by dynamic data didn't help either but in time i hope to learn how to layout purely with CSS

i am a flash animator by trade, www.mularam.com if i can be of any help or offer advice on this front with any of your projects please let me know.

Renazonse, your help on this and other issues has been superb, many thanks again for all your efforts, I will try these solutions suggested but i am sure they will prove fantastic

ok Renazonse

the table works perfectly in IE but once again i'm finding that Safari has issues, the background gets cut off at the end of the table? The table rows have always displayed strangely in safari with rows always apearing below one another i.e. one column instead of two.

Any ideas?

Many thanks in advance

Here's  your page working in IE 7, FF and Safari. It needs additional formatting in IE 6 but with this you'll get the idea of what needs to be done to get it working. I removed a bunch of unnecessary css:
