replacing nsf DB design

I have nsf DB (application) on Domino server, now I receive updated nsf (application) and I want to replace design of old DB with new. Databases don't have same replica ID, so I could not use replication, If I just delete old and replace it with new I will lose data from old DB.
If I select old DB and then Replace design (Domino Designer),  I dont have option to select new edited DB, only templates on server.
So, I need to replace design of nsf DB with new edited nsf DB.

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

See File/Database/Replace design (on R6 and R7). Do this
- make a backup of the current database (and check the backup)
- make sure that updated.nsf is a template (see Database Properties, 4th tab, "Database is a master template"
- click your database icon once
- click File/Database/Replace Design
- select the template in the list
- OK

All elements in the database will be replaced, except for those elements that are set to "Prohibit replace". Also, personal views are not removed or replaced.

1. I click on checkbox; database file is a master template
2. Right click on DB and select, Replace design
When I want to replace design I dont see database that I set as a master template (I see only regular template)? Where I have to save it?
You have to save it in Data folder as ntf (then it'll surely show in the list of templates).

By the way, the people who supplied you with the new template should have made some Manual, to guide you through. Ask them.
I haven't figure out exactly what makes database show in list of templates.
Sometimes it's enough just to check master template property on database (nsf) that's somewhere deep in sub-folder of Data, but sometimes that doesn't work.

But the solution that never fails is the one I mentioned (make a copy of nsf to Data folder as ntf).
