Delphi and Visio document generator

Hi all,

I need to generate a document for a landscape of servers and the software they are running.
I'm currently exploring the possibility of gathering the data with a Delphi App (my expertise) and
trying to create a Visio document with the gathered information (which i don't often use).

A lot of the information keeps comming back, like server hardware setup, server os, drives, ...

This document will be frequently regenerated with the info gathered by the Delphi App so it stays up to date.

Anybody done this before or have any clues where to look ?

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

I think the easiest way to acheive this (without buying any third party components for the task), is to use the Visio automation interface. Check out the links below, one link shows Visual basic examples, but they can easily be ported to delphi.

Hypo's links provide excellent starting points for creating a drawing programmatically. Here's another that shows how to create a flowchart programmatically. Even though this code creates a flowchart, you should get a good idea about the techniques involved for dropping and connecting shapes.

If you want an example of adding data to a shape from VBA code, let me know.
