Same name on the network?

We are running Windows Server 2003 and XP Pro on our clients. When I login to one of the computers it tells me that the name already exists on the network. How can I scan for this other computer with the same name?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Go to a workstation with s different name and open a command prompt type Ping [computer name]
disconnect the network cable of the computer you know that has the name in question first.

You can also try nbtstat -r and then nbtstat -n to search for netBIOS name conflicts.

If your server is running DNS you can also try nslookup [computer name]
