Get windows workstation info remotely
Is there any software that can be run on a Windows 2003 server to obtain info from xp clients on the network, I basically need to get as much info from the client pc's like memory, cpu up address etc. Similar to a belarc
Dameware NT Utilites to be exact: http://www.dameware.com/products/dntu/

Ok does this software allow you to get the spec remotely as in not connect to the machine and not affect the user logged onto the machine, I should mention all these machines are on the same LAN
Yes, it can do exactly that !

Ok, I have checked it and its ok but its a matter of going into each machine and thrawling through the settings, I notice it referes to machines as windows NT even though they are XP, it doesn't seem to retrieve serial numbers the way belarc does either
You could use a vb script as long as you have admin rights to the machines, you can pull a large amount of information out, like serial numbers ip address, user name, memory, hd space etc.

I'm not sure what I would need to do to create a vbscript to obtain that info?
Here is an example of one that i have wrote, it will give you the local computers information.
my-inventory-to-file.txt
my-inventory-to-file.txt

Ok, so do I rename this as a batch file and run it? is this correct does it output some sort of text file?
