Laptop won't fully boot on battery power

I recently restored a R51 (type 2883) laptop to factory default to re-deploy to a new user. However, as I found out when I tried to give this laptop to the new user, when this laptop is booted without an ac adapter (only on battery power) the windows login splash screen is not displayed and the mouse won't move. After this happens the splash screen will not display even with a power cord unless I reboot into safe mode, log in, and then reboot again with the AC power plugged in.

I updated the bios to the most current version and verified that Userinit (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon) is C:\Windows\System32\Userinit.exe. Is there anything else you can suggest to help?

Thank you for your time.

Change the battery. It's possible the one used now is spent and doesn't hold enough power to go through the complete boot.

Have you installed the lenovo specific tools? If so, have you checked for any settings in it's tools for the battery?

What happens if you boot the PC on AC, then when it's up, remove the power and let it drain the battery. How long will the laptop run on battery (disable any power-saving feature for this)? Then reboot again using AC and allow it to charge the battery fully. After that try rebooting on battery.

We ran repair for XP off the disc and that seemed to fix most of the odd problems that were occuring. Thank you for your help.
