How to upgrade to Windows Server 2003 R2

We've just purchased 20 licenses for 20 new servers. The licenses came with 2003 R2 cds. We used the R2 cds to build the new servers.

With our existing 2003 SP2 servers that do not have R2, how do I upgrade those to R2? I put one of the R2 cds in and it is asking for a key. I tried the key that came with the R2 licenses and I tried the key that was used when the server was first built a few years ago. None of them worked. Do I have to purchase and upgrade CD to get a few of our original servers upgraded to R2?

I know about upgrading the schema. That part I can handle. I just need to know how do I upgrade some of our original servers to R2?

Thanks

Might be able to do a clean install using your current R2 licence otherwise you might have to acquire the proper media.

Did you just put in CD2 of R2?  If so, it should run with just the R2 Key and upgrade a Windows Server 2003 to R2.

Ohh..  And to use just CD2 or R2 it must be the same level such as Windows Server 2003 Standard to Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard or Windows Server 2003 Enterprise to Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise.

I put CD2 in and when I type in the key, it says invalid. They R2 CD and the server are both Enterprise Edition. A fresh install works. It's only when I'm trying to upgrade is where the problems start occuring. Would I have to purchase an upgrade CD?
