Zire 21 Hotsync without Hotsync Key

I have a Palm Zire 21. The touch screen is unresponsive, but the unit powers up fine. I can even get to the address book using the buttons, but my buttons are not programmed for hotsync.

Is there anyway to intiate hotsync from my computer? This version of the Zire doesn't have a cradle and I don't think the cables with hotsync buttons are made for this version either.

Alternatively, is there another way to see the data on the PDA? I've found software that would seem to do that, but it requires installation on the Palm which requires hotsync which I can't do.

If you have a screen protector, remove it.

Do a soft reset:
      1. Use an unfolded paper clip, or the reset tool at the tip of your stylus.
      2. Gently press and release the RESET button inside the hole on the back panel of your device
      3. After a soft reset, a logo screen appears, followed shortly by a Preferences screen asking you to set time and date.
      4. All data on your device should be retained. If you do lose data after a soft reset, you may have a more serious issue with your hardware that requires a repair.

Is your data already on your Windows, soft reset didnt work..attempt to do a hard reset:

      1. Press and hold the Power (on/off) button on the front panel of your device.
      2. While holding Power, use an unfolded paper clip, or the reset tool at the tip of your stylus. Gently press and release the RESET button inside the hole on the back panel of your  device
      3. If you see a progress bar (see below), keep holding the Power button.
      4. Next, the Palm Powered screen will appear. Release the Power button when you see it.
      5. You'll see a screen that asks: Erase all data? YES = "up" button NO = any other button. Press UP on your 5-way navigator to complete the hard reset.
After reset, recalibrate screen
if the Screen is still unresponsive, consider sending to fix or purchasing a new one.

You can try software like http://www.chapura.com/pm_standard.php
To initiate a sync from desktop.

Worst case, remove the SD card and place in a sd card reader for windows, and pull off all your data.
