Word 2003 Footnotes

Dear Experts,

For some reason the footnote dialog box has stopped working, and each time I try to insert a footnote, it simply inserts it without displaying a dialog box.  I started work in safe mode, and the dialog box starts working again.  I have been able to figure out that it is one of our custom templates which is causing the problem as disabling that template allows the footnote dialog box to appear again.

However, I cannot see anything in this template which would stop the footnote dialog box from appearing.  Does anyone know what could cause this to happen?

Thanks

We probably can't help you without looking at the template that's causing the problem.
