deploying .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 with WSUS

I am trying to deploy .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 and .NET Framework 3.5 Family update for .NET version 2.0 through 3.5 (KB951847) x86 but when I try importing KB951847 through my WSUS I get this message:

! This update cannot be imported into Windows Server Update Services, because it does not have the required applicability information.

What does does not have the required applicability information mean? Instead of importing, as instructed on the catalog site, I have downloaded the package named above but how do I update my users systems with this package using WSUS?

Double check your products and classification options within wsus.
You need to make sure that under classifications you have Service Packs checked.

All options under Products & Classifications with exception of Feature Packs are chosen.
Run a search on the updates for KB951847 (right click on the wsus listed server and select search).
You may already have the update and only need to approve its installation on your systems.
Someone may have previously declined the update or went through the server cleanup wizard which declined the update when it was not approved in the past 30 days.
Did as you suggested, found 951947 which I then approved. However, as before, when trying to import 951847 from the Micorsoft Update Catalog, I get a message " ! This update cannot be imported into Windows Server Update Services because it does not have the required applicability information."

There is no need to import an update that already exists on your WSUS catalog which I suspect that is the meaning of the update.
Check all the needed updates.  Once you approved the update, you should see it there with the settings to install.  The delay in deploying depends on how long it takes for the update files to download as well as the next system checking.  I.e. do your systems check in with the wsus server once a day, etc.

Go to one of the client systems and run wuauclt /detectnow and see whether the update is not downloaded to the client.  wuauclt /detectnow will trigger an immediate check with the WSUS for available update.
The import mechanism is used for updates that are not available through the WSUS channel.  I.e. some hotfix that is not being pushed through Automatic updates. etc.

Sorry, but that is not th ecase with me here. After approving some updates, including the KB915847, I get the following:

"The files for this update have not yet been downloaded. The update can be approved but will not be available to computers until the download is complete."
