Layers or sub-slides

Is there some way to work with layers or sub-slides on PowerPoint (like Adobe Flash)?
I'm using 2007 version.
I'm asking because it becomes very messy when you do something like this:
1) put a text box on the slide center with some text
2) on the next mouse click you want to change the text
3) imagine you want to do this 10 times (10 different text on the same position you want to show in sequence when the user clicks the mouse)
I'm doing this with 10 different text boxes, making each one dissapear on the mouseclick and showing the next one.
Is there an easier way to do this?
The problem is that you will end with a lot of overlaping text on the slide center and it will be hard to find a specific text box if you want to change it.

If PowerPoint works with layers or maybe sub-slides it would be better to work on that.

From within PowerPoint 2007, click on the drop down arrow next to Select on the Toolbar and then click on Selection Pane.
