DNS Resolution

Hello,

I seem to have two hostnames resolving to the same IP. When I ping Host A the IP returned is the same when I ping Host B. Host A's name is minint-0lbm5cqs which is the default naming convention for Microsoft's BDD imaging software. Once we imaged the PC we renamed it to match our naming standards. We have checked DNS and we cannot find a record for minint-0lbm5cqs, so we do not know what is resolving this hostname. Any thoughts?

Thanks

The most likely culprit is WINS. Do you use WINS at all?

Hey Chris!

NBTSTAT -A (IPaddress)

Will show you the Mac address and netbios name table of that node that is answering the ping.
