Measure cisco switch and router performance

Hi all,
what is the criteria we should take a look at when comparing
cisco switches
cisco routers
equipments ?
i guess it has something to do with kpps ? but not sure.

Also when you have a running router of switch, what command can give you an idea of the actual performance ?

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Cisco either measures the performance of it's equipment by PPS (Packets Per Second) or bps (bits per second).

The best measurement would be from hosts, not the router or switch itself. Most FTP clients will measure the throughput of a download.
