setup raid on dell dimension e520

I also have a dimension e520 that I am trying to reload with raid1. I keep getting the 7b stop error. When I press f6 and insert my floppy with the intel matrix storage files on it I get a list of potential drivers to load. I have tried several but I always get the error as setup continues to 'installing windows'. How can I know for sure which driver to load?

I see both raid and ahci drivers in the list after hitting f6. I have set raid in the bios to 'raid on'

Can someone tell me how to determine which driver is the correct one?

Hi there,

The intel controller with be a ICH*R. you need to select the RAID driver not AHCI.

* = number either 7, 8, 9 or 10 depending on how old the motherboard is...

Any idea how I can determine the number? Is there anything printed on the board sort of thing?

I have tried 5 and 6 so far from the intel matrix downloaded from dell's driver's page. Machine service tag tells me it is from 2006 when I look it up.

It will co-incide with your Chipset... if you go to device manager and have a look at the chipset...

i.e Intel 945 express .....

then have a look on the intel site it will tell you which raid controller it has...

The E520 has an Intel G965 chipset. The SATA controller is an ICH7R if I recall correctly -- couldn't verify quickly and have other irons in the fire.
