How to stop Mumble auto adjusting volume

I've been looking for a solution to stop Mumble (client version 1.1.8) from controlling the volume of my microphone, and auto adjusting the volume level based on if I'm talking softly or loud.

While it seems like a good idea to auto adjust the sound of my microphone, it becomes very annoying (same problem with Skype) when my volume keeps getting dramatically louder if I don't speak for a few seconds, and then when I do talk it's almost to the point it hurts other peoples ears.

On our mumble server we have our microphones set to "continuous" (microphones always on) so we can all speak together (like a Skype conference call), so this is a real problem.

If anyone knows of a solution it would be greatly appreciated.

AGC (Automatic Gain Control) has been a pain in the butt for decades -- even before computers. They stick it on everything, and basically it's a tool for idiots who don't know how to adjust microphone volume.
You can often disable AGC, it depends on the programme or the device.
