I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Must be R8 or later, I've never even heard of it...

Is this you too?

Anyway... The examples by IBM do not show code that modifies the design of the outline. Apparently only the generated contents is refreshed. My assumption is that the design is loaded once...

You could try R8.5 though...

I added your question on the French Domino forum. I think you're the world expert on the Outlinereload method, so don't expect too many results here...  ;-))

HTML5 and CSS3 Fundamentals

Build a website from the ground up by first learning the fundamentals of HTML5 and CSS3, the two popular programming languages used to present content online. HTML deals with fonts, colors, graphics, and hyperlinks, while CSS describes how HTML elements are to be displayed.

Here's a trick that I use that has worked ever since framesets were introduced back in R5.

1) Place your outline on a Form rather than a Page.  Make sure that SaveOptions is set to "0" on the form.

2) Display the form in it's own frame.  This technique will not work if the form containing the outline is not in its own frame.

3) When you want to refresh the outline, just compose a new form in your outline frame.  The old form is disposed, and the new form has a fresh copy of the outline.

For example, if your form's name is "MainMenu" and your frame's name is "NotesNavigator", then you can refresh the outline using either example below:

LotusScript:

    Dim sess as New NotesSession
    Dim ws as New NotesUiWorkspace
    Call ws.SetTargetFrame("NotesNavigator")
    Call ws.ComposeDocument(sess.CurrentDatabase.Server, sess.CurrentDatabase.FilePath, "MainMenu")

@Formula:

    @SetTargetFrame("NotesNavigator");
    @Command([Compose]; ""; "MainMenu");

I will try and see if it works. Do you think it works from an agent?

>> "Do you think it works from an agent?"

That's probably the best place to run it from.  If the button that causes the reload is on the "MainMenu" form, then the code MUST be placed in an agent.

I am sorry to say but it does not work. It could be because I use an background agent to create the outline and the form is beeing loaded in the memory before the agent has finished

It should work.  Please post your code.

Bill-HansonCommented:
Sorry.  If this is purely a backend-only agent, then the UI calls will fail.  The code must be called from the UI in order to refresh the UI.

Forget everything I said.  I thought this used to work, but I can't get it working anymore.  Sorry.

The closest I have come this afternoon is to call ws.ReloadWindow after modifying the outline.  The outline does reload, but my frameset opens in a 2nd window.  Maybe you'll have better luck.  Here's where I found this idea:

Well I think I have to stick to the old method and have to close and open the database. But it is strange that outlinereload does not work.
One thing that i found out is that if I have the designer client opened and then use my agent wich also have windowreload in the end of it, then it works. But if the designer client is closed then it does not work.

Strange I must say

I wonder if notesuiworkspace.outlinereload is specific to the Standard client, like when you right-click a database bookmark in the 8.5 Designer and select Refresh?

IMHO, this question contains useful information, so you'd better not delete it. I think a PAQ/Refund would be a better way. You can accomplish that by accepting one of your own answers, say ID:24496924

I agree, the question should be PAQ/Refund

Solution:

I had the same problem.  I am using 8.5.3.  I am using a Frameset with a Page containing an Embedded Outline.  I finally realised that all I had to do was reload the Frameset then Reload the Window:

Call ws.OpenFrameSet( "Default Frameset")
'Call ws.OutlineReload ("Results","")  ' does't work as described
Call ws.ReloadWindow()

Now working fine.
