Backup Exec & Exchange backup selections

We're using Backup Exec 12.5 to back up our Exchange server, when choosing selections I'm choosing the whole of drive C, D & E and the Mailbox store and Public folder store.

Somebody once said to me I must deselect the location of our MDB files namely \program files\exchsrvr\mdbdata from the backup as the store selections will pick up all Exchange requirements, is this correct or should I leave the MDBDATA folder selected too?

One other question, I've turned off the Advanced Open File option on the Exchange backup, is this correct too?

Thanks

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

You need to select Information Store for full exchange backups and restores in a DR situation. That is all you need. No need to backup drives, select system state as well. You can also select all mailboxes if you want to have individual email restores.

Backup MDBDATA folder as well. You need to use Open File option, so that backup exec backup open files as well.

Only backup Exchange Database via BE remote agent. If you try to backup the Exchange mailbox database/transaction log file from file system, you may get consistency issue after your restoration.
