problemen met installatie KPN usb "modem"

Hallo,

Kan iemand mij a.u.b. helpen?

mvg,
robert bakker

ah sorry my bad, damn this will take me a long time in english but here goes!

I'll start at the beginning, I'm having troubles installing a usb stick for HSDPA internet for an acquaintance. It's from KPN a dutch telecom provider.
The person in question had bought a similar stick december 2008, due to disappointing speed and coverage he returned it.
This person is going on vacation tomorrow evening and because he needs to be available for work he had bought a new model. This should be a very easy and straight forward installation. You only have the usb stick and it should intall itself, but when the autorun starts or when you choose the install file manually you get a screen that says if you want to repair or delete the installation.  Both options seem to work but eventually they do nothing.
This friend said he had some troubles de-installing the previous program in the past but he didnt think much of it at the time.
The files are all from the system , because they should be in the program files > kpn internet folder but that doesnt exist anymore.
When i go to software/programs in config menu (VISTA) you see the KPN internet program, when you try and delete it it says completed but it stays in the overvieuw.
So i think somehow he deleted most of the files but their some garbage left in the registry.
When i search on KPN in the registry I find lots of records, but i'm very causious when deleted records in registry especially when it's not my laptop.
Can anybody help me in finding out what files i need to detele so i can do a fresh clean new intall?
I already called the KPN company for help, but the people at their helpdesk are dumber then a monkey's ass I must say. ( stuff like, HIM : Sir plz turn of your computer > ME :  Reset it? HIM: NO, ME : OK it's of, HIM : ok now turn it on ). And their are more of those examples I will spare you.

I tried an restore point before he first tried to install the stick a few days ago but that dint work, I guess the damage was already done when he de-installed in in 2008. I can't go that far back unfortunately.

Can anybody help me plz,  otherwise i will just have to make a new restore point and delete anything i find in the registry from KPN, and pray ......

kind regards,

robert bakker

ok
there are a couple of choices you have in front of you.
first of all, if you need to go THAT far back at a restore point, I would suggest a fresh installation of the laptop, since they all come with a recovery partition.
if that in not an option, and you know how to mess with the registry, a good registry cleaner would help (try "registry cure").
you also need to check the "msconfig" for start-up executables and the services under "administrative tools". to remove a service, again you have to mess with the registry. I would suggest doing it manually instead of leaving an app doing it for you but it's always up to you. files in use can always be killed. if you got such a problem, try downloading the "Unlocker Assistant" (kills files in use)
please post reply on the progress and/or other questions/suggestions/thoughts

You can delete Add/Remove entries using something like CCleaner.
Then you can use MSI cleanup utility to clean them for reinstall.
Do you have any other problems afterwards?
Then - remove device from device manager, rescan for new hardware (with stick pluged in), repeat until all trails of driver are removed.
When searching in "keys" I found NO occurences of KPN, so I assume all the KPN keys are 100% safe to delete.
But before that... Run (as admin) autoruns.exe from http://live.sysinternals.com/autoruns.exe as admin and remove drivers from kpn installation paths and nonexistent paths.
Also remove KPN services and autostarts.
What is your operating system version (including service pack)?
Actually - are you sure this is KPN problem? It is just a dialer like many. Are you sure no viruses or spyware in computer?
