RIS Remote installation services feasability

My company would like to implement some sort of image deployment system. One of the ideas that came up was a RIS server. I've never built one of these and I'd like to know whether it is really worth it or not before I get to far into it. How does it compare with altiris, ghost, or acronis?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

It really depends on the size of your environment and the commonality of applications and configurations between groups (e.g. how many workstations get this configuration, how many have these apps, etc.).

RIS is free, which is nice.  It also creates the computer accounts, and SIDs, and things like that.

Ghost is relatively easy, but requires setting up computer accounts and changing the SIDs.
