struggling to remove white background from a gif

Hi there,

Ive been trying to get rid of a white background on the attached image for nearly two hours!

The trouble is that the swirl colour is quite close to white and everything i do leaves bits around the text that are the same colour as the swirl..

also when finished i need to reduce the size to around 10-15% so i dont want the edges to be jagged.

heres what i have tried so far (all in photoshop):

1) changed to rgb image mode then selected white colour range and delete. this leaves whitish edges around the text.

2) gone to blending options and lowered the 'blend if' levels to remove white - this leaves the white edges around the lettering as is is the same colour as the swirl - if i go to far the swirl disappears.

3) tried to trace using the pen tool to remake the image from scratch - unfortunately i am not good enough at using the pen tool to make this work!!

4) in illustrator - traced the image - but it looked rubbish so gave up - i dont really know how to use illustrator too well!

please can someone give me some guidance -  ive looked online and on here but cant seem to solve the problem.

Thank you very much

Simple approach, but have you tried increasing the tolerance with the selection tool to a High number like 150 or 200, click and delete?  If the primary logo is Dark enough, you should be able to use selection tool with a high tolerance and anti-aliasing off to select the light colored background.

thanks but i did try that before but the swirl in the logo is pretty light colored so only the text remained!

Change the color of the swirl temporarily to a dark color.
