Exchange 2007/SnapManager performance

We are using Snapmanager for Exchange version and Snapdrive version Our Servers are Windows 2008 x64 with all the latest updates. Exchange Version is 2007 SP1 with Rollup8 and all updates.

We have a performance issue when SnapManagerService kicks in to run its hourly snapshots. While Snap is running the access to mailboxes is slowed down. As in when a user tries to open a folder in outlook it hangs for a few seconds, sometimes longer, before displaying the contents. After the snap has completed then everything runs fine with little to no delay what so ever. This happens on both servers.

We have 2 servers that are identical in build one server has about 46 mailboxes, 2 mailbox stores (80 GB first store, 70 GB second store), 1 journal store (100 mb) and it takes about 50 to 60 minutes to take a snapshot. The second server has 15 mailboxes, 2 mailbox stores (16GB first store, 6 GB second store), 1 public folder store (1.5 GB) and takes 15 minutes to snapshot.

We also have an issue where SnapManagerService.exe tends to increase in memory usage without releasing the memory after the job has completed. We currently run and stop/start command after the snapshot completes to restart the service and keep the memory usage low.

We also use Symantec Enterprise Vault version 8 to archive mail from the mail boxes on the larger used server.

Has anyone come across this issue or anything similar with any of these variables?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

What snapshot ideally does is stops the IS in the background and no data in or out of store till it takes a kindof Picture of the DB and once released everything would be back to normal.

Are both the servers Std or Ent for Exchange ?
If you take a backup with ntbackup whats the scenario then ?

Looks like the verification at the end of the job was causing some of the problems. We are building a separate verification server.

We've installed NetApp with SnapManager for Exchange and EV 8.0 and have not had issues.  Normally this would not be an EV issue since the emails are ingested via MAPI and the pulling them back from the archives involves going the EV server directly.

At this point in time I would open a ticket with NetApp, their support is very good.  EV shouldn't be an issue in this scenerio as far as I can see
