I am having an issue installing Service pack 3 after a repair install of windows XP professional.
It all started when my system crashed after installing and running HULU. I have searched everywhere for similar errors but i cannot find anything. Â I started Hulu app. and was watching a tv episode when all of a sudden bluescreen apeard. I cannot remember the error it gave me. after that i had to restart the computer. after the Windows Splash screen it just kept restarting the computer over and over again. I coudn't even go into safemode to try uninstall the hulu ap. so id decided to do a repair install with my windows xp cd and did the whole process. Also after successfully logging into windows i also try to update using the windows update icon and it wouldn't install updates so i did a reregistration of the Wups2.dll and i was able to install all updates for SP2 but now when trying to install service pack 3 it gives me the following error: Service Pack 3 Setup Error : "The File or directory is corrupted and ureadable" then it just gives me the option to press okay. I have tried the manual installation which gives me the same error. Â Any ideas?

Event Viewer (Start|Administrative Tools|Event Viewer). Click on "System" in the left panel. Do you see RedBall error icon(s) timestamped at the exact time the problem occurred? Â If so, click on the RedBall. The first message will have some data on what the problem is, but usually it is not too easy to understand. Click the blue go.microsoft.com link. Â Send a report to Microsoft. Â Another window should open (though it may take some time) which may offer some more understandable info and maybe even a solution.

Which of the links in my last post gave the error?
There are potential fixes for your latest problem,

But maybe it would be wiser to try a System Restore to a date before ALL the Problems started. Â However I am not sure you will have System Restore points after a Repair Install.
And you could scan your PC with your antivirus and antispyware programs (using latest reference defintion files). Â Delete what is recommended. Â And then you may want to
P.S. Â It is regedit.exe, Â not rededit.exe, but I see you must have typed it correctly based on the error window title.

jcimarron-I did have an antivirus before all this happened. Bitdefender 2009 is the antivirus i was using is it any good? I schedule a full system scan every other day before all this happened. Â I have fully installed the OS and updated sucessfully. Now just the task of re-installing all the software...

Microsoft Windows XP is the sixth release of the NT series of operating systems, and was the first to be marketed in a variety of editions: XP Home and XP Professional, designed for business and power users. The advanced features in XP Professional are generally disabled in Home Edition, but are there and can be activated. There were two 64-bit editions, an embedded edition and a tablet edition.
