SBS 2003 SP2 Internet Connection Wizard Fails

I have Windows SBS 2003 SP2 and I am attempting to run the Connect to Internet and Email wizard or the Configure Remote Access wizard.  The Wizard procedes fine until it gets to the Firewall configuration.  At that point it fails and it generates RRAS report.  I  am unable to configure the linksys router on our network this way.  As a side note the Remote Web workplace works just fine inside the network but when attempting to access it from without I get a page can't be displayed message.

Can I Install Windows Server 2003 SP2 on SBS 2003?
http://blogs.technet.com/sbs/archive/2007/03/14/can-i-install-windows-server-2003-sp2-on-sbs-2003.aspx
I would run the Wizard without getting it to try to configure your linksys router (if that is what you are trying).

It is much safer and easier to configure the router yourself.

If I am not understanding you rproblem properly - please accept my apologies and perhaps you can expand a little on what your steps are and what you are trying to do.

Thanks

Alan
Definitely don't let the SBS server utilize uPnP to control the router. That causes a lot of security concerns, especially for opening external ports to the outside world.

The business owner is used to running the wizard when he has trouble connecting via Remote Web workplace.  As stated the RWW works internally but doesn't work outside the LAN.  We get the following:  http://www.accessdata.com.au/content/images/IConfig.jpg.  How would I prevent uPnP from being used by the SBS to control the router?   From what I have read about SP2 that there are issues but none that directly correlate to the symptoms we're experiencing.

Something else to consider is if you are already running a hardware based firewall, then I would recommend just turning off the SBS/Windows Firewall option via the CEICW.

To correct the record the Connect to Internet and Email wizard runs fine and isn't causing any further trouble.  The Configure Remote Access Wizard is still failing to complete it's setup.  It stalls at about 90% and then after a while it generates the following message:  An error occurred while creating the connection manager configuration package file. For details, see C:\Program Files\Microsoft Small Business Server\Support\rraslog.txt and then rerun the remote access wizard.  At this point the only firewall is the Windows based one.  SBS is not allowing me to modify the firewall settings and an informational message pops up stating that "another program or service is running that might use the Network Addrerss Component (IPnat.sys)".  I click Ok and still can't access the firewall settings.

Re-run the Internet connection Wizard and when you get to the Enable Firewall option, select disable firewall.

I was able to view the internal company web page on the lan last night.  I tried accessing the same from home and IE displays a blank page.  I did successfully ping the IP with no loss of packets however.  I will rerun the ICW and try ot disable the firewall.  I have run the ICW a few times and don't recall it giving me an option to adjust the firewall setttings.  I'll report back when I know more.

Does the rraslog provide any clues as to what is the issue or are the recommendations being made done so with other experiences in mind?  My client logged in Sunday evening and turned off the routers firewall and he stated he still couldn't connect to the server via Rww.  I have yet to go back and rerun the ICW.
One option I can think is since this problem is Service Pack related, you might want to look at calling Microsoft directly as sometimes they will waive the support fee when they find out that the Service Pack caused the problem.

If you are a Microsoft Partner, you can obtain priority support for cases where the business itself is considered in a 'down/unresponsive' state.

Looking through the rraslog, it seems that the problem is:
*** Running IExpress to build the package returned ERROR 80004005
*** ERROR: Cannot delete temp directory CMP1F.tmp

This link suggests that Windows 2003 SP1 has caused the error:
http://forums.techarena.in/small-business-server/89189.htm

Have you installed Windows 2003 SP1, or have you installed SP1 for SBS ? - check control panel / add/remove program. (list updates).

In regard to the service packs I followed what Microsoft posted as their recommendations for installing the service packs.  I am not sure why they want Windows Server 2003 SP1 installed when in a number of places I have read that it shouldn't be installed on SBS 03 at all.  I installed all the service packs listed below in order with the exception of the Windows XP SP2 for Client Deployment.

Step One: Download the updates
On the computer running Windows SBS, create a folder named SP1 on your local hard disk.

Download and save the following updates into the SP1 folder:

Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1
Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 Service Pack 1
Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 1
Windows XP SP2 for Client Deployment
Windows Small Business Server 2003 Service Pack 1
Windows Server 2003 Sp2
Okay - great that you have followed the correct document and got the right Service Packs in place.

Have a look at the following article and see if following Brandy's suggestions highlights anything please:
http://groups.google.co.nz/group/microsoft.public.windows.server.sbs/browse_thread/thread/f53f5ff44b35d776

The suggestion is that you might have moved the Client Packages folder - is this the case?  If so, the registry needs to be changed to reflect this also (key is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SmallBusinessServer\clientsetup).

We'll get there!

I noticed in the google news group link that they have a manual RWW config instructions.  Hopefully that will apply to our situation as the directions are made for SBS 2000.  I do not recall now that I think about it installing the XP SP2 Client Deployment app update.  if I omitted that would that be a major issue?

End user replaced the router that was being used and he was able to solve the issue with RWW.  Thanks for all the input.
