SMTP Server NOT Working - Mail Enable
SMTP Server Suddenly NOT working. Servers are not receiving most e-mails from clients. We see one or two e-mails go through for the whole day but that's all. We typically gets about 500+ emails. We tried to send test messages and it does not bounce back. So we presume the server is getting the e-mails but not routed properly.

We use Mail Enable SMTP Program ver 1.07. When we restart the SMTP service it says fail to start SMTP once, I tried to restart it again and it seems to work. But still there's no e-mail coming in. We are using Windows 2003 Server Standard Edition.

Please kindly give inputs on some fixes or how to dig deeper to find the cause of the problem. Any hits or tips would be appreciated. Thank you and Cheers!

ASKER

There is no emails on the queue. We have not upgrade to the new one. Does the upgrade process effect the mail settings? Nothing was wrong until today. Do you think it may have been caused by older version of MailEnable?

Any other ideas? Can we log the emails to better understand what's going on. Thank you.

Within Internet message handling services (MHS), a message transfer agent or mail transfer agent (MTA) or mail relay is software that transfers electronic mail messages from one computer to another using a client–server application architecture. A MTA implements both the client (sending) and server (receiving) portions of the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP). The terms mail server, mail exchanger, and MX host may also refer to a computer performing the MTA function. The Domain Name System (DNS) associates a mail server to a domain with mail exchanger (MX) resource records containing the domain name of a host providing MTA services.
