unable to access server

I'm trying to login to a server using remote desktop, but continue to get a message saying to check the password, or domain or double check if caps lock is on (see the screenshot below).

I have checked and double checked that the username and password are correct.  Would there be anything on my end that would be preventing me from logging in?  It doesn't make any sense.

I've also confirmed I do not need a vpn connection to access the server.-

I'm not sure why I am unable to login to the server.  Is there a way to run some tests to help troubleshoot why I can't login?

Thanks for any help.

PS. I'd recommend removing the picture you attached as it clearly shows the IP address of the server on a public lan which I can easly connect to and as this is Server 2000 so would be easy to hack.
