"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Here are two tutorials for setting up Amanda, one for Debian which will cover other apt-based systems as well, one for CentOS which should work for other yum/rpm-based systems or could be easily adapted:

For hourly backups, change the crontab entry in the first howto from:

45 0 * * 2-6    /usr/sbin/amdump intra

to:

0 * * * *        /usr/sbin/amdump intra
