How to put a sql2000 database in standby mode.

I have sql2000 log shipping set up but it is failing because the secondary server is not in standby mode. How do I put the secondary database in standby mode?

seems like you didnt restore the SECONDARY database in NON-RECOVERY mode

RESTORE DATABASE xxxxx
FROM DISK = 'C:\Full_db_backup.Bak'
WITH NORECOVERY
