standard USB PS/2 mouse doesn't work after waking from sleep mode

A standard Logitech USB mouse doesn't work after a Dell Latitude D505 laptop computer wakes from sleep mode.  There are no options for changing this behavior in either the "Mouse" or the "Power" applets of the Windows XP S.P. 3 control panel.  The standard Windows 5.1.2600 driver is being used.

Sounds like the laptop is turning off the usb port to save power have you checked:
In device manager (right click my computer and then manage, choose device manager)
check the settings for the mouse and usb's in there by going to properties and then power management.
there is an option on the top box "to allow windows to turn off this device to save power" make sure this is unticked.
It probably will be on the usb ports that this is causing the issue so check them all.

Do you use any laptop software on there at all? I mean acer normally have there own software on laptops to control this sort of thing to make the battery lat long, I had it where it kept turning off an ethernet port all the time, once changed in there it was back to normal.
Have a look and check the software if you have any, normally in power management side of things

Selecting the "Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby" seems to have fixed the problem.
