Blackberry 8350i and exchange server 2007

I am trying to sync my blackberry 8350i which is through Nextel to my exchange 07 server. Everything that I have read shows that I need a Blackberry Enterprise Server at my location or a third party sync software such as Astrasync or Notifysync. I called sprint today and they told me that I only need to activate BES on the phone itself. They did this for me and told me to activate it using my username,password, and exchange OWA address just as I would in a windows mobile device with activesync. So far this has not worked but I do receive an email in my inbox trying to activate and I do see the phone under my mobile devices in OWA. I must be missing something here since I did not think that blackberry's support activesync.

To my knowledge Blackberry devices do not support Active Sync.    I think they (Sprint) are talking about BIS (Blackberry Internet Service)      For BIS you have to login to a website and configure and comfirm the settings.

You also have the option of  BES Professional or Express or whatever they call it for free for the first license...just go to this site and put in the PIN of the device and all the info and your good.

Thanks EndureKona. I did get in touch with second level support and they did verify that I had to have a BES server in place. Thanks for the link on the BES professional. My company only has four blackberry phones and it pains me to pay that much for something that I can do for free on a windows mobile, iphone, or for that matter just about any other type of smartphone. Notifysync has an excellent activesync for blackberry but they do not support the Nextel direct connect field that gets mapped to the radio field in outlook.
