What do you mean by issues?

I use it, safari 4.01 for the most part it works.
For occasional sites  that don't play well with Safari due to lazy coding, I use the developer menu to open/try said pages in either firefox or opera or via user agent modes for windows explorer etc.

I occasionally have the beach ball of doom, but a force quit, backed up by saft recalling all open windows, means I don't miss much.

You need to expand on what issues you mean.

I was reading where there were issues with security holes in Safari version 3.  Is there a way to have safari do automatic updates of the software or are updates more a manual procedure?

software update usually takes care of these things, you can either implement it manually from the apple menu, or set it to  check as scheduled through your system prefs panel.

Have you considered upgrading to 4?
