Windows Vista Update Error Code 80072EE2

I have an HP tx2117cl tablet PC with Windows Vista Ultimate, SP-1, 32-bit installed.  It came with Vista Home Premium and I upgraded it.  The hard drive failed and it was replaced and everything was restored from HP tech support.  I immediately upgraded it to Vista Ultimate.  I have never been able to update the machine via control panel\Windows Update.  I can download and install updates without a problem though.

I tried disabling the firewall, resetting IE, adding Microsoft's update sites as trusted sites, etc.  I even went to the extreme of conducting a clean install of Vista Ultimate, and installed and downloaded and installed all recent hardware drivers, and I still get the 80072EE2 error.  I have other simial Vista laptops, but they do not have update problems.  What gives?

proxycfg.exe is not available in Vista so I used netsh commend to reset it.  There were no proxies either.  Also, I used the local admin account.  I completed the steps, but I still get the 80072EE2 error.  I have the firewall disabled, and I can access the Internet, but no go.

Suntoya provided the information I needed.  I connected the laptop via the wireless connection and all updates work fine, so the problem lies with the embedded Ethernet card itself.  I updated the driver several times to no avail.  Thanks so much!!!
