Windows Live Messenger Create ISetting Failed error

I've just started getting a Create ISetting Failed error message followed by a C++ Runtime message and a crash of Live Messenger.

I've tried uninstalling, rebooting, and reinstalling to no avail.

Anyone ever seen this error?  Is there a solution?

Please uninstall the Windows Live Messenger once again.
To be doubly sure, just type paste this command in the Run dialog. Start > Run >
msiexec /x {0AAA9C97-74D4-47CE-B089-0B147EF3553C}

After that is done. Please re-boot the computer.

On rebooting, also uninstall any C++ runtime packs you might have.

The only C++ runtime pack I saw was for Visual Studio 2008, and it did not appear to get reinstalled when I reinstalled Windows Live Messenger.

One thing I didn't mention before, is when I start up Messenger and get the "Create ISetting Failed" error, Messenger actually continues to work until click the OK button.  I can sign in, send messages, receive messages etc. until I click the OK button and I get this message:

Runtime Error!  Program: c:\Program Files\Windows LIve\Messenger\msnmsgr.exe  This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.  Please contact the application's support team for more information.

And then clicking OK on that box unloads Messenger.

Any other thoughts?  Did I uninstall the wrong C++ Runtime maybe?  I didn't see any other C++ runtimes on the list.

Yes. You should uninstall the C++ runtime pack. You can always get it online if you need it.

I can't find the C++ runtime pack on my Add/Remove Programs list.  Can it be uninstalled from anywhere else?

What version of Messenger do you have?  2009?

Try running this command and please let me know if it uninstalls anything:

Start > Run > msiexec /x {22B775E7-6C42-4FC5-8E10-9A5E3257BD94}

It seemed to be uninstalling MSVCRT, which I would guess stands for Microsoft Visual C++ Run Time.

Do I need to reinstall it now?  If so, which version, 6.0, 2005 or 2008?

PhateonCommented:
So, methinks that MSVCRT was uninstalled successfully. Please restart your computer & reinstall your Live Messenger.

Strange, after uninstalling MSVCRT Messenger suddenly worked.  I didn't have to reinstall anything.  I didn't even have to reboot.

Thanks bucketloads for your help!
