Adobe Reader keeps trying to download

I have an issue with one of my branch offices.  3 of the machines there alternate trying to download Adobe Reader, tying up the T1 connection and straining the connectivity resources.  I have pulled reader off of each machine, re-installed it, and it keeps trying to download.  Is there a file in Adobe that can be removed to keep it from going out and trying to download itself?
Here is the site the computers are trying to access: ardownload.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/9.x/9.1.2/misc/AdbeRdrUpd912_all_incr.msp

Here are the sites that were accessed just prior to the download site kicked in:

swupmf.adobe.com/manifest/60/win/reader9rdr-en_US.upd
 swupmf.adobe.com/manifest/60/win/AdobeUpdater.upd
swupmf.adobe.com/manifest/60/win/AdobeUpdater.upd
swupmf.adobe.com/manifest/60/win/reader9rdr-en_US.upd

The user did not physically go to these sites

In Acrobat Reader, go to Help - Check for updates
After Adobe Updater launches, go to Preferences and uncheck "Automatically check for Adobe updates"

One thing to interject on the solution, you will need to restart the computer for the settings to take effect, and to stop the update process.
