Word '07, item not collected, format not supported

I have a user who recently upgraded to Office '07
Since then, when she tries to cut or copy in Word, she gets the message "item not collected, format not supported"

This is simple text, one or two characters even. The clipboard features work in other '07 apps, including Outlook composing emails (which uses Word '07)

I am confused.

I'm sorry, but that doesn't seem to address the issue.
It's for a different problem, and seems to refer to Word '03

If you go into Word help and type in "Item not collected" it will come up with a help file that talks about the clipboard. How many items does she currently have on her clipboard?

none. It will not add anything to the word clipboard.
It works in Excel, powerpoint, and even Outlook

but it will not add anything to the clipboard in word

If you open Word in safe mode and try again, do you still get the error?
