How does one create a docm file

I have a client that doesn't know how they were able to create a docm file.
They had a doc file modified it and then saved as and renamed it. They are using Office 2003. The default option is set to a .doc file.

Seems like they did a "save as" and selected "Word 2007 Macro-enabled Document (*.docm).
A file with the DOCM file extension is a Word Microsoft Office Open XML Format Document (Macros Enabled) file.
I suppose it's also possible that they mistakenly renamed the extension in explorer and it's really a .doc format, but that seems unlikely.
You should be able to open the docm file in Word 2003 with the 2007 compatibility pack and then do a save as to the standard doc format.
Hope this helps.

This user didn't have the 2007 compatibility pack installed. But I am going to make sure all the computer have that installed.
