asked on

map usb to virtual serial port

I have a posiflex cr4105B cash drawer, which is USB.
we are using MYOB retail manager which only recognises serial and parrallel ports for their cash drawers.

is there any way to make a map a usb device to a serial or parrallel port in windows XP.

It should work with a USB -> Serial cable. Plug the USB end into the XP Machine and the serial port into the cash drawer. This works with the serial devices my clients use (albeit not cash drawers). ... Thinkpads_User

my only problem is that the computer is a laptop - no serial port.
the laptop is the sales machine for the business
But your laptop has a USB port, so connect the cable to the USB port and plug the other end into the serial port of the cash drawer. ... Thinkpads_User
sorry, cant do that cos there is no serial port on the cash drawer. This model has only usb and power socket.

bummer, not the news that i wanted, however i knew it was coming....
got to hate it when the client chooses software they want over others....

in relation to the software, i have seen some converter software, however am not wanting to spend $100 to test its functionality...
trying to work with a designer to get a driver and emulator created.
will close the question.

thanks everyone for your efforts.
actually will leave open and post the results of the design.
ok, way too much to have the driver designed.
have abandoned efforts.
cheaper to buy new cash drawer, or computer even...
thanks for your help.

This is a very poor response; there is a solution; and if you regard yourselves as experts you shoudl provide a solution. While I agree that MYOB is very poos software - to suggest that the person dump their application instead fo proivideingthem, fix  I am glad that I didn't buy a paid subscription!
