We're running notes 6.5. Suddenly we have to persones missing from our addressbook when going into the address book from Administrator view, but when typing their name in a new memo they show up..  Sending a mail to the address results in an error that it's non-existant. In a new memo in the address lookup detail-view the person seems to bemissing the mailserver and mailfile settings - so they seem to be there somewhere but I cannot figure out how to find them :)

Please advice

Person references can be found in several places.

The NAB (or Domino Directory), in a Person document. That is the main registration of a person. If that document isn't available for a person, he cannot use Notes on the server in a sensible way. Derived registrations, like e.g. Directory Assistance, are created and maintained by various Domino processes.

Usually, if a person is manually deleted using the Admin client, the AdminP process will remove all references to that person. It could also be that your NAB was corrupt and the document was removed during a fixup.

In any case, you need a backup copy of the NAB (or a replica on a server or on some client PC), so you can copy/paste back the Person documents.

So if I open up a backup of names.dat, it's possible to drag & drop the missing persons (don't have access right now) ?

Indeed, try that, and see what happens if you activate the AdminP task yourself. These Person documents may be removed once again. If that is the case, please post again here.

By the way, the database is usualle named names.nsf
