Hi there,

I am looking at building a Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 and would like to know if it will support PCI video capture cards? The only information I can find states minimum requirement are USB 2.0 web cams or Office RoundTable device.

If so what are they?

I am looking at Osprey cards as an option but don;t really want to purchase one and find out it doesn't work?

thanks

Can't really if this has anything to do with Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007
but rather depends on the mainboard support for PCI.
Since the video capture card is connected at the mainboard  PCI slot one.
The software required to capture  is bundled with the card in the form a PVR ( personal video recorder) like an interface that looks like a screen on the desktop.
S-video cable or digital with audio cables composite.
Depends on the choice of video capture cards.
Once you connect the server to the TV this PVR will show what is playing. Like having your TV on your desktop

You may need to clarify a bit more what you are looking for and planning to do eastharbourit,
>>I am looking at Osprey cards << this particular capture card is for streaming

I have a WinFast TV2000 XP Deluxe capture card as ref

Sorry I should expand the question.

I want to conduct video conferences using the OCS server. Desktops will connect to video conferences via the OCS server. Instead of using USB web cameras or Office RoundTable devices I would like to use external cameras i.e. Sony EVI-100P PTZ cameras connected via a video capture card e.g. Osprey 100 or higher? The cameras will be connected via S-Video cable.

Will I be able to do this?

Thanks

I cannot definatively answer that as my experience levels are limited there eastharbourit,
from what I have read there is a about 15 second delay from the recorder, making realtime participation from clients improbable.
video conferencing via USB webcams would be more suitable and a lot simpler.
With s_video you would need to capture and encode then stream instantly/
The Osprey 100 does not meet your requirements
Osprey specs of this card are as follows>>
Originally designed to capture video for streaming, the Osprey-100 also has many applications in security, medical, scientific and other applications>> (( where audio capture is not needed.))<<
this is an ideal card for capturing video-only camera feeds like those used in ATMs, surveillance, medical and scientific equipment.

Here's a bit more information
In order to have a video conference, both the audio and video streams need to be coded and decoded

Thank you very much for your help Merete. FYI Osprey cards are used for video conference systems i.e. Emblaze ViewpointHD use these cards for VC desktop solutions.

cheers
