Juniper Network Connect Client Application not installing

Hi,

I have a Juniper Firewall NS5GT-ADSL device in place on a WAN VPN. Clients access the VPN through the Juniper Firewall.

Most of the remote clients work fine, but with two of the clients, I have the problem of the Network Connect Client Side Application not wanting to install. The Host Checker installs and then nothing else happens.

Sine the application does install on most of the PC's, the configuration of the firwall device is correct.

Does anyone have an idea what I should be looking for on the pc's that it is not working on.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Mark.

The Netscreen Remote application (that is what you are talking about, right?) is a rather picky piece of software because it integrates quite intimately with Windows networking.
1. So far as I know, they still do not have a 64-bit client (I use SafeNet SoftRemote for that). Are these computers running 64-bit operating systems?
2. If 32-bit, then try temporarily uninstalling your AntiVirus / Firewall, and see if it installs then.
3. Look in Add/Remove Programs to see if there is an earlier installation getting in the way.
4. Consider Malware and Viruses.
5. Is it a company machine?  It might be better in the long run to reimage and re-install if you cannot easily find a reason.

Hi,

Already Unistalled any antivirus and anti-spyware and diabled windows firewall and any other application which could interfere with the installation. All PC's are running Windows XP Professional 32bit. I have ensured that there are no other versionals of the software, the machines are brand new Toshiba Satellite laptops, with fresh/clean installations.

Thanks for the info, but I am still struggling.

Thanks

Mark.
Thanks for the follow up. Strange, because I have installed Netscreen Remote on some Toshiba's before.

1. With XP, I got as far as Version 8.8. Perhaps (shot in the dark) Juniper could point you to that version or the one before assuming you are up in the 10.x range. I still have V8.8 running on my XP machine (IBM Desktop) but I have V11.1 running on my Vista laptop.
2. Does the Toshiba have some on-board wireless/wired networking assistance program and might that be uninstalled temporarily? Thinkpads have Access Connections but that never got in the way of installing Netscreen Remote.
3. Is it possbible to upgrade the wireless and wired drivers?
4. Is Windows Defender installed? Again, I use this without issue, but you might try uninstalling it if it is there.

Given that you uninstalled the AntiVirus and disabled firewalls, I am not entirely certain what could be causing this.

Hi,

The version of the Network Connect is 6.3.0, I am trying to get Juniper to regsiter the device and create an account for me, so that I can download the latest version and try a manual installatio. Unfortunately that does not really explain what the current problem is. It is working on other machines, why not this one?

Yes the Toshiba has onboard wireless and wired networking, and the latest drivers have been downloaded and installed. No there is nothing but the driver software installed, no networking assistant software (bloatware) for either network adapters.

Windows Defender is not installed, no antivirus and no antispyware is installed.

I have two laptops with me now, one works and the other simply will not install the network connect application, so I am running through what each laptop has, the process of elimination will hopefully shed some light...

Thanks

Mark.
Hi Mark - we are a wee bit apples and oranges on this one.

The product I have used is Juniper Netscreen Remote. The farthest back I have here is V8.6 (2005) but I think I started with V8.3 (2003). I have not used anything earlier.

Also, you speak of Network Connect and I have not heard of that.

So at this point (a) I agree I don't know why one machine and not the other; but (b) can you try a later version. I have used Netscreen Remote V8.6, 8.7 and 8.8 quite reliably on IBM Thinkpads and a few Toshiba XP Pro laptops.

Hi,

My hardware device is the Juniper NS5GT-ADSL, when a client connects to the associates URL, it automatically promts the user to install the Host Checker application and the Network Connect 6.3.0. application.

So yes, we are probably not talking about the same device or software.

Thanks for your input.

Hi,

Do you have a copy of the software for me to download, that would help...

Thanks

Mark.
Hello Mark, I have it, but at 25Mb I probably cannot email it, and I have nowhere to FTP it to. Can you contact Juniper? It is licensed software but they should be able to supply it to you.

Hi Thinkpads,

If I gave you FTP details for my website, would you upload the file using a FTP manager?

That would really be appredciated.

Thanks

Mark.
The licenses I have are client licenses and not really re-distributable. I have my own personal license for SafeNet SoftRemote V11.1 64-bit edition but that is no use to you.

I did look around and saw the following:
http://www.nscreensales.com/NetScreen_Remote_VPN_Client_100_user_lic_p/ns-r8a-100.htm

The price was pretty reasonable given that you have a few users. I think my clients paid abou $30 per license for a quantity of 10. This is the most econmical way to purchase.

Hi,

I have been doing some investigating regarding the device. There is no licensing involved regarding the users. The device has unlimited users regarding licensing but is limited regarding device capacity.

I have been digging a little deeper and it is starting to look like there are user restriction on the VPN SSL Gateway which is controlled by an IT Administrator in Switzerland.

Thanks for your assistance and I will let you know what resolution I found.

Mark.

Hi Mark,

First, as I alluded to, I went astray here because my usage for these boxes is IPSec VPN, whereas your usage is SSL. I did further check to verify one of my clients is using the same box as you, but not using the ADSL component because a modem was already in place when I put the box in.

I did do some further digging myself, and found http://kb.juniper.net/KB9090 which speaks to the software you are using. I don't know if you have seen these articles, but I just wanted to be sure you were aware of them.
