microsoft information store missing

Exchange Info Store has gone missing...
While on Vac Exchange stopped working. No one knows what happened, but when I go to service to restart Infomation store services they are missing.
I'm new to 2007 and people want their mail.
Error below is what I get when I start Exchange Mana Cons.

Odd...are you sure your on the Exchange 2007 server?   If the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service is missing from the Exchange server then the mailbox role has been removed or you have multiple Exchange servers are your not looking at the correct one.

Try restarting IS service.

You indicated that "service to restart Infomation store services they are missing" so I'm wondering if you go to services.msc are they gone?  

My other guess is your database is corrupt in some fashion.

You might have to run a defrag to attempt to fix the corruption.   eseutil /p

But if the services are not listed then you have other issues.

Can you open a command like and run:

Net stop MSExchangeIS

then

Net start MSExchangeIS start  

Do you get errors about not found?

Here is the error on net stop MSExchangeIS

Ok it sounds like Exchange lost a few things and this is a bit deeper.   You can call MS support and pay $245 (I think) to work with you to fix it.  

Or you can attempt to repair exchange...or run the installer.

Do you see the reg key:  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeIS

How should I go about Repairing / running the installer.
If I re-install will I need to move info store, logs and the like? they are very large.

Something odd happened to this server.    I would make sure you have a backup of the mailbox database (have you confirmed the physical DB's exist on the server) and attempt to repair:

setup.com /mode:recoverserver

You will have to attempt to run the recover command or install the mailbox role and then possibly use the database recovery

I had similar problems while updating SP1,
I have done a - setup.com /mode:upgrade  , updated the same exchange server patches which was applied earlier and it worked for me.

I went with the $259 Microsoft solution.
We did a complete uninstall then recovery.
We're up and running.

This recovery was one of the suggestions so was  " You can call MS support and pay $245 (I think) to work with you to fix it. "
