outlook wont open when an exchange account is added

cannot start microsoft outlook. Cannot open the outlook window. The set of folders cannot be opened. The information store could not be opened is the error i get when i open outlook.

I have spent over 7 hours on this stupid problem, I have read article from microsoft on registry changes used the reset/navpane, uninstalled, re-installed, performed updates. Exchange works from other computer just not the vista ultimate outlook 07.

i found a 3rd parrty office uninstall tool which removes all registry keys etc associated with outlook and the problem is now resolved. 7 hours might of seemed like a waste but this seems to be a common problem and with the tool it takes about 25mins which the more of it we see the quicker the initial time will pay off. As far as I am concerned, there are only three resolutions to problems with Outlook (presuming the problem doesn't follow the user to another machine).

- New Outlook Profile
- New Windows Profile
- Wipe the machine.

I find reinstalling Outlook/Office is a waste of time. I have never seen it resolve any kind of email issue.

You have spent seven hours on the problem - that is six and half longer than I would have done. I can get Vista reinstalled in less than 40 minutes from a memory stick and have the user running again in less than 90.

in vista had an inplace upgrade like xp i would consider. By the time i get everything installed and configured that im using i will have wasted a day. The problem is im not solving anything just avoiding the issue, im sure someone has a resolution to this issue it seems very common.

These problems are common, and are very hard to deal with.
I gave up trying to fix them a long time ago. I now give Outlook issues 30 minutes at most, and then reinstall the OS from scratch. I work in the results business - I know a flattened machine will work.
I don't see what the upgrade path would have anything to do with it - as that wouldn't fix the issue. Only wiping the system resolves it.
If you have been working on this for seven hours then you have wasted a day and not got a decent result. If you had simply wiped the machine to begin with you would have a working system by now.
