I understand that it is a course. The issue is what format is it and do you have the requisite plug-in program to access it?
I.e. is it a power point presentation? Is it a flash, etc.
Is the course loaded into a web browser for display, etc.?

Which browser? Try a different one? If your system has apache, can you place the file in the htdocs and access the file through the local apache web server?

Can you place the presentation document into the htdocs directory and see whether accessing the resource through a web server solves your issue?
The behavior is different when loading a document from the local file system versus when loading the resource from the outside.

The problem is I have no idea what the presentation is.
Is this a web based presentation?
What are the requirements/restrictions on the presentation? I.e. if web based, is it limited to one or a few browsers? If it is a download, do you have the applicable viewer?
There are way to many questions.
If you can, post the URL or a detailed explanation on how you access these items.
