WatchGuard Mobile VPN Client will not install properly

I am installling the VPN client on 6 different laptops. It succeeds on two and the others have the following behavior:
When I install the Watchguard Mobile VPN client for IPSec, it installs with no errors. When I reboot after install, it is VERY slow to boot to the login screen. Once I log in, the log in screen greys out for a minute or two, applies computer settings and personal settings for a couple more minutes, then I get the desktop after a few more minutes.
Then I find that the regular NIC cards don't work. Any ping I do to an internal IP address gets me 4 HARDWARE ERROR returns. No DNS resolutions either.
I have tried uninstalling both wireless and ethernet cards and reinstalling.
The only other variable I think significant is that the ones that are failing have had Cisco VPN software uninstalled on them. I have gone through the registry as certain Cisco docs have recommended and removed files and entries as instructed. Still same behavior.
Watchguard support is scratching their heads. Any ideas?
