reduce winsxs folder

Hi I have win vista x64 and the windows folder is 17 gb long, I have gone and see files and the winsxs folder alone occupies more than 7 gb. I know this is where windows backups critical files, but is there a way to reduce my windows directory or the winsxs directory?

Thank you

http://www.technologyquestions.com/technology/windows-vista/65857-what-winsxs-folder.html consensus seems to be that winsxs should be left alone.  On my machine the winsxs folder alone is 13.5 gigs, holy s*** batman!

Well than ks I already knew you cannot delete files with it, I was hoping for an utility to make it smaller.
